NVV & FRIENDS VOL 5 - ALEX ORANGE

What got you into music? I come from a family that’s really into music, so I grew up surrounded by a wide variety of music. My mum listened to 60s hippie stuff and my older brother was a punk. But it was my younger brothers who brought the first electronic dance records into our house. Stuff that’s in this mix actually, like “White lines” and “Beat dis”. What tune never leaves your bag? One that always comes with is Sister Nancy’s “Bam bam”. Love that bassline. Who's your biggest influence? DJs who play across genres, but manage to make it work. I’ve always been into music since I was little, but really it was when I started to understand what bass was. I used to read a lot of car tuning magazines and they used to have big speaker setups, which led me to go into Halfords and just stand in front of the Subwoofers when I was about 7 years old haha! Then moving onto to going out with friends, legitimate clubs, not so legal outdoor and warehouse parties, it all felt real tribal back then - Same faces every weekend, some of which are now my best of friends. Would certainly name check the White Sugar parties in Bognor for piquing my interest in a sound. This all led to buying a set of belt driven turntables... The struggle was real...

NVV & FRIENDS VOL1 - OLI CREASY

For the first instalment of the NVV SoundCloud mix series, I caught up with Bristol DJ Oli Creasy - check out his bio below to find out what makes him tick. What got you into music? My Dad for sure. He's got a huge collection of soul, funk and punk. When I was younger I'd spend hours trying to listen to everything. He'd always buy one of the recommended CD's from a resident in Brighton and one day came back with Geeneus and Youngsta's 'I Love Dubstep' compilation. It' blew my mind. Tunes from Benga, Horsepower, DMZ, Loefah and Pinch, I've been hooked on forward-thinking music ever since. What tune never leaves your bag? Celestial Choir - Stand On The...
