What got you into music?
I come from a family that’s really into music, so I grew up surrounded by a wide variety of music. My mum listened to 60s hippie stuff and my older brother was a punk. But it was my younger brothers who brought the first electronic dance records into our house. Stuff that’s in this mix actually, like “White lines” and “Beat dis”.
What tune never leaves your bag?
One that always comes with is Sister Nancy’s “Bam bam”. Love that bassline.
Who's your biggest influence?
DJs who play across genres, but manage to make it work. For example, DJ Yoda, 2 Many DJs and The Nextmen.
Who do you rate on the scene at the moment?
Yoda as a DJ. He has continually managed to reinvent himself and do well with it, from his early indie rap mixtapes through DVDJ-ing to making “real” music.
Phryme as artists.
DJ Premier and Royce da 5’9’’ are two veterans of early and late 90s hip hop respectively, but they prove that they are still relevant today.
Diplo as a producer. He’s been doing his thing for ages, but always manages to stay just ahead of the curve. Also, he has done loads of successful pop tunes, but still finds time to make beats for rappers like Yellawolf.
What are your words of wisdom for the human race?
What’s your Dream DJ rider?
I’m easy. A few Eastern European lagers and some Tangerine Dream.
