Description

Visions of Light return to NuNorthern Soul with Mycelium Bloom, the follow-up to the Balearic and ambient dub trio’s 2025 debut album, The Mandela Vortex. Founded by Freebooter Records’ Simon Sheldon alongside Muzka and Dan Dub Lounge, the group expand their signature sound across eight tracks of Balearic electronica, downtempo dub, psychedelic textures and chilled-out soundscapes, making this black 12-inch vinyl LP a perfect companion for sunset sessions, laid-back listening and deeper late-night journeys.

Built around deep basslines, layered guitars, spacious pads and dreamlike melodies, Mycelium Bloom balances unhurried grooves with immersive electronic experimentation. Opener Split The Scene introduces acidic synths, languid beats and expansive atmospheres, while All The Best Things draws inspiration from the early ’90s chill-out room era, weaving desert blues influences into its hazy, hypnotic sound. Holding Jupiter ventures further into psychedelic territory with effects-laden guitars and slow-burning rhythms.

The album also explores the warmer side of Balearic and dub music. B Town (Edit) delivers a sun-soaked skank, while Radiant Flux moves towards a more dancefloor-focused Balearic dub sound. Perfect You (Edit) features words written and performed by Richard Dormer alongside flute from Luis Vilca, creating a standout moment for golden-hour listening. Closing track Let Go rounds out the record with gentle melodies and an effortlessly blissful atmosphere.

With DJ support from Glenn Underground, Leo Mas, Sean Johnston / ALFOS, Massimiliano Pagliara / Panorama Bar, Al Mackenzie / Field of Dreams, Shane Johnson / Fish Go Deep, Flash Atkins / Paper Recordings, Pete Gooding, Mark Broadbent and Max Essa, Mycelium Bloom is a compelling release for fans of Balearic house, ambient electronica, psychedelic dub and laid-back dance music.
