The Vendetta Suite continues to explore the stranger corners of electronic music on 'Scrabo Electric', a four-track EP for Hell Yeah Recordings shaped by youthful memories, 80s Electro, Dub, Acid, sleazy Disco and early beat-street culture. The project from Northern Irish producer Gary Irwin turns memories of growing up in Newtownards, County Down into a deeply personal blend of Balearica, Downtempo, leftfield Electro and dubbed-out electronics.

A longstanding Hell Yeah Recordings artist, Gary Irwin has developed a reputation for unconventional combinations that reframe sounds and ideas from the 1970s and 80s through a contemporary lens. On 'Scrabo Electric', those influences become particularly personal, drawing on memories of breakdancing, dub reggae, teenage discos, mushroom trips, tape-swapped Electro compilations and the local characters and record shops that helped shape his musical identity.

The title concept comes to life on 'Original', where wiggy electronic rhythms and off-kilter textures evoke the raw energy of early Electro and beat-street culture. Rather than simply recreating the period, The Vendetta Suite twists those references into something hazier and more psychedelic, balancing nostalgic drum-machine rhythms with the loose, leftfield character that runs throughout the EP.

'A Dub For Dave' heads deeper into Dub territory, using echo-heavy production and spacious effects to create a suitably smoky counterpart. On the flip, 'Uprock At Digby's Disco' brings punchy 80s Electro drums to the forefront, channelling memories of breakdancing and teenage discos into a quirky, floor-focused cut with plenty of character.

Closing track 'Lead Mines Bonus Beats' strips things back to raw, textured funk breaks and rhythmic experimentation. Together, the four tracks form a nostalgic but distinctly unconventional tribute to the music, places and experiences surrounding Irwin's formative years in 1980s Northern Ireland – part Electro battle tool, part psychedelic Balearic excursion and part personal musical scrapbook.
