Description:

Graham Newby returns as Tambores En Benirras with Alba Ambar, his third album and a beautifully atmospheric collection inspired by the mystical, life-affirming magic of sunrise. Released on NuNorthern Soul, the album is a musical meditation on stretched-out dawns, the beauty of the early morning and those peaceful moments when anything feels possible.

Following the release of Onda Horizontales, Newby's creative process took a new direction after his sight deteriorated to the point that he was registered blind. Finding new ways to work through muscle memory, instinct and feel, he continues to create expansive Balearic soundscapes, drawing on mood, texture and atmosphere rather than the visual cues that once informed his music.

Across the album, slow-burning electronic textures, gradually unfolding chords, shimmering melodies and hypnotic rhythms create a deeply immersive listening experience. The title track sets the tone with reverb-soaked female vocalisations and delicate electronics, while 'Bucanero Acido' brings ambient acid chug and undulating TB-303 lines. Elsewhere, 'No Se Me Pasa' drifts through soft-focus ambient dub, acoustic guitar and echoing vocal samples, while 'Batalla De Etiquetas' blends dancehall and trip-hop influences, reflecting Newby's earlier downtempo productions for Grand Central Records.

From chilled Balearic atmospheres and ambient electronics to subtle dub, acid and downtempo grooves, Alba Ambar unfolds as a richly textured soundtrack to the transition from night into day. A stunning double LP for fans of Balearica, ambient, downtempo and leftfield electronica.
