Description:
Jerome Derradji’s Past Due Records proudly presents the first installment in a highly anticipated reissue series of Lee Moore’s rarest and most influential boogie funk gems, originally produced for his labels Score Records and LM Records during the early 1980s.
Lee Moore, known for his groundbreaking soul hit “Ain’t Gonna Spread Myself” (1971), took a different direction in the late ’70s and early ’80s, delving into innovative boogie and disco sounds that have since become legendary among collectors. His Memphis-based productions, featuring top-tier musicians from the Isaac Hayes Movement, embody the raw, soulful spirit of the era’s underground funk scene.
In 1979, Lee Moore released the disco anthem “Reachin’ Out (For Your Love)” on Source Records, a track that reportedly inspired “Ring My Bell,” showcasing his influence on the dancefloor. Frustrated with major label politics, Moore and his wife Patricia Moore decided to create their own label, Score Records, focusing purely on innovative music rather than commercial success. Their sessions at Memphis’ Sound of Memphis studio, with talented musicians like Michael Toles, Lester Snell, Willie Hall, and Ray Griffin, produced some of the most revered boogie funk recordings ever made — now considered holy grail collectibles.
“Ten Toes Up” is a rare gem from this series, showcasing Lee Moore and Wave’s quintessential Memphis boogie sound. These tracks exemplify the raw energy, lush grooves, and futuristic funk that have captivated collectors and DJs worldwide for decades. Original copies of Score Records releases are exceedingly scarce and fetch astronomical prices, making this reissue a must-have for enthusiasts.
Jerome Derradji’s reissue of these classic tracks marks the first time these four Score releases have been available on vinyl and digital formats since their initial release. This series aims to introduce a new generation to Lee Moore’s groundbreaking sound and to celebrate his enduring legacy in funk and boogie music.
Featuring: Lee Moore, Patricia Moore, Subway Featuring Wave, The First Family, and Alien — four pioneering records that pushed the boundaries of their time and remain influential to this day.
