Description

Shadow Child – Beginnings Vol 1 brings together two early standouts from the UK producer's catalogue, capturing the bass-heavy, underground house sound that helped establish his distinctive identity. Taken from the in-demand Shadow Child vaults and appearing on vinyl together for the first time, this two-track 12-inch reissue revisits a pivotal moment in early-2010s club music.

First released in 2012, String Thing marked Shadow Child's debut under the alias on Claude VonStroke's influential Dirtybird label. Driven by haunting string lines, tough low-end pressure and crisp, propulsive house percussion, the track quickly made an impression on the dancefloor, attracting support from Eats Everything and VonStroke. Its combination of raw club energy, UK bass influences and stripped-back house rhythms became a defining part of Shadow Child's early sound.

The Only One followed in 2013 on Dirtybird's Players compilation, offering a darker, more atmospheric take on bass-driven club music. Brooding synths, hip-hop-inspired swagger and a weighty, club-focused groove give the track its own distinctive character. Together, these productions capture the moment when UK producers were pushing garage-influenced, bass-heavy sounds into the wider international house and tech house scene.

Featuring two sought-after early productions in one vinyl release, Beginnings Vol 1 is a welcome return to the foundations of Shadow Child's sound. With DJ support from Eats Everything, Claude VonStroke, Zane Lowe, Jamie Jones, Richie Hawtin, Pete Tong and Danny Howard, this is a strong addition for fans of Dirtybird, UK house and underground dance music.
