Description:
Renegade Soundwave classics 'The Phantom' and 'Probably A Robbery' are rewired for contemporary dancefloors by two UK electronic music heavyweights, Carl Cox and Mr.C. Released through Brighton label Jack Said What, this heavyweight 12 inch vinyl connects the pioneering sounds of UK rave, breakbeat and acid house with two producers whose own histories are deeply intertwined with British club culture.
A pioneering force in UK rave, bass and breakbeat music, Renegade Soundwave helped establish a blueprint that would echo throughout decades of British electronic music. Tracks such as 'The Phantom' combined industrial electronics, breakbeats, dub-informed bass and rave attitude in a way that was years ahead of its time, remaining relevant to successive generations of DJs and producers.
On the A-side, Renegade Soundwave X Carl Cox – 'The Phantom (Carl Cox Rewire)' brings the seminal track back to the dancefloor with a fierce 130 BPM overhaul. Cox retains the unmistakable bassline while surrounding it with pounding Techno kicks, snapping breakbeats, metallic percussion and flashes of old-school rave energy.
Chopped vocal chants and distorted samples gradually increase the pressure before the remix locks into a relentless warehouse-sized groove. Raw and deliberately physical, Carl Cox preserves the rebellious industrial character of 'The Phantom' while giving it the low-end weight and production power of a modern peak-time club track.
The flip sees Renegade Soundwave X Mr.C revisit 'Probably A Robbery' with a darker, acid-soaked approach. Clipped percussion and shadowy vocal fragments introduce the track before a snarling 303 acid line begins twisting through a muscular late-night groove.
Machine-funk rhythms, metallic drums and psychedelic electronics steadily build throughout the Mr.C Rewire, drawing directly from the producer's deep roots in Acid House. Spacious and hypnotic while retaining plenty of physical dancefloor pressure, it's a suitably tripped-out reinterpretation of the Renegade Soundwave original.
With founding member Danny Briottet returning with new Renegade Soundwave material, these rewires offer both a celebration of the group's legacy and the beginning of a new chapter. Carl Cox and Mr.C approach the originals with respect while adding their own unmistakable club identities, connecting classic British rave culture with the contemporary dancefloor.
Perfect for DJs and collectors into Renegade Soundwave vinyl, Carl Cox, Mr.C, UK Rave, Acid House, Breakbeat House and classic British electronic music. Two influential originals, two legendary remixers and two heavyweight club rewires make this Jack Said What 12 inch vinyl a powerful meeting of rave history and modern production.
