Description:

South Street brings together three club-focused reimaginations of Nina Simone classics, remixed by Francois K, Tony Humphries and Coldcut. Originally appearing on the 2006 compilation Remixed & Reimagined, these versions bring Simone's iconic vocals into the worlds of Deep House, Jazzy House, New York House and leftfield electronic music.

Opening with Here Comes The Sun (Francois K. Remix), Francois K delivers a sublime Deep House rework with clear nods to the early Chicago sound of Larry Heard / Mr Fingers. A deep bassline, delicate mbira touches, celestial textures and subtle melodic details create an other-worldly backdrop for Nina Simone's spiritual vocal. The remix was also featured on one of Innervisions' acclaimed Secret Weapons compilations.

On the B-side, Tony Humphries takes on Turn Me On, transforming the bluesy soul character of the original into an uplifting, summertime House groove. Staccato guitar parts, chopped vocal melodies, rumbling bass and rolling rhythms give the Tony Humphries Got U Turned On Dub a playful, soulful dancefloor feel rooted in the traditions of New York House and classic club music.

Closing the EP, Coldcut reimagine Save Me through chopped-up samples, lo-fi percussion, distorted textures, glitching elements and stuttering sequences. Simone's powerful vocal sits above skittish, club-ready drums and looped guitars, creating an atmospheric piece of Electronica with a tougher dancefloor edge.

Nina Simone – Remixes is perfect for DJs and collectors into Deep House, Jazzy House, New York House, classic vocal house, soulful club music and inventive electronic remixes of iconic recordings.
