Description:
Celestial Echo Records heads to the Cayman Islands for CER014, bringing two incredibly rare tracks from the legendary Memory Of Justice Band back into circulation on 7 inch vinyl. Produced in association with Whale Rider Records and longtime friend of the label Medlar, the release pairs gorgeous 1970s modern soul with an infectious early-80s reggae-boogie cut from one of the Caribbean's best-kept musical secrets.
Formed in Grand Cayman during the 1970s, Memory Of Justice Band developed a distinctive sound blending Soul, funk, reggae and Caribbean influences. The group became one of the region's most beloved bands, yet much of their catalogue has remained difficult to find outside dedicated digging circles. For this release, Celestial Echo's Miche and Wolf Music founder Stu Clark, with help from Medlar, shine a much-deserved light on two standout recordings from the band's catalogue.
The A-side, 'Going Round In Circles', is a beautiful slice of warm, uplifting 1970s modern soul. Lightly orchestrated strings, jazzy guitar licks and effortlessly soulful vocals combine with the band's natural musicianship to create a timeless recording that feels tailor-made for the Celestial Echo catalogue. Sweet, melodic and full of warmth, it's exactly the kind of overlooked soul gem that makes deep record digging so rewarding.
Flip the record over and 'Power' moves firmly towards the dancefloor. Produced by legendary Jamaican rhythm duo Sly & Robbie, the track finds Memory Of Justice Band in early-80s reggae-boogie mode, driven by a heavyweight rhythm section, bright keyboards, infectious hooks and colourful musical flourishes. Its head-nodding groove provides the perfect counterpart to the sweetness of the A-side while highlighting the connections between Caribbean reggae, funk, disco and boogie during the period.
With its focus on rediscovering overlooked music and respectfully putting important soul records back into circulation, Celestial Echo delivers another beautifully curated reissue. Two contrasting but complementary tracks make this a strong 7 inch vinyl for both dedicated collectors and DJs looking for something a little deeper in the box.
Perfect for collectors and selectors into rare Soul vinyl, Caribbean Disco, reggae-boogie, modern soul, funk and tropical grooves. Memory Of Justice Band – Going Round In Circles / Power brings two hard-to-find Caribbean gems back to vinyl, pairing sweet soul with serious dancefloor groove.
