Description:
Hot Since 82 returns to his own Knee Deep In Sound imprint with 'Obsessions', a deeply personal double vinyl album that moves beyond the confines of a traditional dance record. Written through a period of constant touring, movement and introspection, the nine-track LP captures the push and pull between intensity and stillness that has come to define Daley Padley's world, moving fluidly through Tech House, Melodic House, breakbeat, electronica and full-scale club music.
Padley's story began in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, with long nights, small rooms and an uncompromising commitment to music. Those early marathon DJ sets formed the foundations for everything that followed — global touring, chart success and the creation of Knee Deep In Sound. Throughout that journey, Hot Since 82 has carved out a distinctive space between underground house music and global dancefloors, and it's this instinctive approach that shapes 'Obsessions'.
While firmly rooted in house music, the album refuses to remain in one place. Deep and melodic grooves give way to breakbeats, atmospheric electronica and peak-time club pressure, with moments of euphoria gradually dissolving into reflection. For Padley, music remains both therapy and a reset button, and that sense of emotional release runs throughout the record, resulting in one of his most introspective and wide-ranging bodies of work.
Opening track 'All That Matters' immediately establishes the album's emotional tone, balancing intimacy with an expansive, hypnotic sound. 'Shaded' draws directly from classic house lineage, reworking elements of Shades Of Rhythm's 'Sound Of Eden' while sharpening its familiar vocal hook and chord progression for contemporary club systems. 'Life's Too Short', meanwhile, originally dates back six years before being shelved and left untouched, finally emerging here as a warm, piano-driven house and breakbeat cut built for the room.
As the album develops, 'Eternity' introduces further warmth and movement with subtle Afro-influenced touches, while 'Wow' heads into darker late-night territory through tension, restraint and hypnotic repetition. Collaborations with Kuuda on 'State Of Mind' and 'Time' return the album firmly to the club, delivering driving, physical productions designed to work at scale.
Closing track 'Another Life', featuring vocals from Lydia Kaye, provides the album's powerful final statement. Combining downtempo breaks, ambient textures and deep house foundations, the track slows everything down and allows the record to breathe. It's a reflective conclusion that reveals the more personal current running beneath all of the album's movement, energy and dancefloor intensity.
Perfect for DJs and collectors into Hot Since 82 vinyl, Tech House records, Melodic House vinyl, progressive electronic music and atmospheric club sounds. Presented as a 2x12 inch vinyl double LP in a gatefold sleeve, 'Obsessions' captures Hot Since 82 at his most expansive, combining the dancefloor instincts that built his career with a deeper and more introspective approach to electronic music.
