NYC 1980–1983 Vol. 3, this essential 7 inch vinyl features two previously unreleased versions of a track originally recorded at the height of New York City's Post-Disco and Boogie Funk explosion.

Hot Cargo was a project developed by acclaimed disco musician and producer Richie Weeks for Salsoul Records around 1982–83. Recorded at New York's legendary Right Track Studios with an all-star lineup of accomplished disco and funk musicians, 'What's In It For Me' was intended for release during one of the most exciting periods in NYC dance music but remained buried in the archives for decades.

Musically, 'What's In It For Me' is a prime slice of early-80s Boogie Funk, loaded with slap bass, analogue synths, infectious vocals and the polished but deeply funky production associated with classic New York labels such as Prelude Records and Salsoul Records. With shades of the sophisticated electronic funk associated with groups such as Aurra, it's the kind of record that sounds every bit like a lost 1983 dancefloor classic.

The A-side delivers the concise 'Short Mix', while the flip stretches things out with the superb 'Long Mix', allowing the bassline, synth work and irresistible groove additional room to breathe. Had the record received its intended release in the early 1980s, there's every chance it would have found a home on the dancefloor at Larry Levan's Paradise Garage and become another celebrated entry in Richie Weeks' formidable catalogue.
