Description:
Brazilian musician, songwriter and producer Pedro Guinu makes his debut on Razor-N-Tape Reserve with Palago, a vibrant album inspired by his relationship with his hometown of Rio de Janeiro and the city's deep connection to Brazilian musical heritage and African rhythms. Blending MPB, samba, Brazilian disco and wider international influences, the record brings together a rich mix of styles rooted in the sounds and traditions of Brazil.
Recorded live in the studio, Palago captures the warmth and sonic textures of 1970s analogue recordings, drawing inspiration from the likes of Eumir Deodato, Marcos Valle and João Donato. Across ten tracks, tasteful arrangements, spontaneous improvisations, intricate polyrhythms and heavy grooves create a sound that feels both timeless and fresh. Soulful vocals, rolling basslines and vibrant percussion bring a distinctly dancefloor-friendly energy to the album.
From the samba-infused grooves of 'Portao de Ferro' and 'Chorando Pitanga' to the more forward-looking sounds of 'Eletromandinga', Guinu balances classic Brazilian influences with contemporary production. The album has received strong support from an impressive range of DJs and tastemakers, including Laurent Garnier, François K, Danny Krivit, Gilles Peterson, Nick The Record, Ashley Beedle, Max Essa and Jazzanova, with tracks also receiving radio play on BBC 6 Music, Worldwide FM and NTS.
A beautifully arranged and richly textured collection, Palago is a standout release for fans of Brazilian music, soulful disco, jazz-inflected house and sun-soaked dancefloor sounds.
