Description:
Few artists have had a greater influence on house music than Frankie Knuckles, forever known as the 'Godfather of House'. This limited edition white vinyl pressing of 'The Director's Cut Collection Volume Two' celebrates the extraordinary legacy of Knuckles and his long-standing creative partnership with acclaimed producer, DJ and songwriter Eric Kupper.
Working together as Director's Cut from 2011, Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper revisited the classic Def Mix sound, creating new productions, remixes and reworks that combined sophisticated house grooves with soulful vocals, lush strings, piano melodies and unmistakable dancefloor emotion. Their shared musical language is showcased across this carefully selected eight-track collection.
The album opens with the atmospheric 'Baby Wants To Ride (Re-Directed)', a fresh interpretation of the seminal Frankie Knuckles and Jamie Principle classic. 'Let Yourself Go' follows with a polished Director's Cut treatment before 'Let's Stay Home' brings piano-rich deep house and soulful vocals from Inaya Day. The B-side continues with their soaring, string-led interpretation of Sylvester's disco classic 'You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)'.
The second record delivers further highlights, including the duo's deliciously percussive house rework of Lou Rawls' Philly Soul classic 'You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine', alongside 'Hostile Takeover'. On the D-side, 'Back Together' offers a beautifully crafted revision of the Hardsoul and Ron Carroll classic, while 'The Look' rounds out the collection with another refined example of the Director's Cut sound.
This special collection is released in collaboration with The Frankie Knuckles Foundation, which continues Frankie Knuckles' legacy through initiatives including music education, support for LGBTQ+ youth homelessness, AIDS research and prevention, and diabetes research and education.
A fitting tribute to one of house music's most important figures, The Director's Cut Collection Volume Two is essential listening for anyone passionate about Frankie Knuckles, classic house, deep house, soulful house and the timeless Def Mix-inspired sound.
