The Tech Rico EP marks the final release from visionary artist and longtime Cosmocities Records collaborator Erik Rico, completing a deeply significant chapter in the label’s history. Completed shortly before his passing, this release stands as both a creative evolution and a celebration of an artist whose influence spanned house, funk, broken beat, Afrobeats and beyond.

Originally connecting with Cosmocities founder Matt Soulie via Inkswel, Erik Rico’s collaboration history led to projects such as Cosmic Love Affair EP and The Rare Groove Project. Encouraged to explore a more techno-focused direction, Rico channels that evolution here into a bold and forward-thinking body of work.

Opening track ‘Tokyo By Train’ sees Erik Rico step into full techno territory, delivering driving rhythms, atmospheric depth and a cinematic sense of movement. ‘Afro Beatdown (Let’s Go!)’ follows with a vibrant fusion of Afro rhythms and broken beat energy inspired by the spirit of Fela Kuti, balancing percussion-heavy groove with raw electronic edge.

On ‘Summer In Chi Town’, Rico pays homage to classic Chicago house, layering warm synths and skippy drum programming into a soulful, uplifting groove. The track is reimagined on the B-side by Inkswel, featuring additional vocals from Erin Buku and Marley Love, transforming it into a deep, bruk-infused reinterpretation with rich soulful character.

Closing the EP, ‘Madrid Or Manhattan’ delivers a hypnotic, vocoder-laced house groove that blends late-night atmospherics with deep rhythmic flow, rounding off a project that feels both expansive and deeply personal.
