Considered by many to be a hip hop masterpiece, De La Soul's 1989 debut album '3 Feet High and Rising' was not only a milestone for jazz rap, conscious and alternative hip hop, but was a huge commercial success. Classic singles of the era like 'Me Myself and I', 'The Magic Number', and 'Eye Know' were beamed into living rooms across the globe via MTV. It's not hard to hear why Rolling Stone rates it as one of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Prince Paul's sampling of artists like Hall & Oates and Steely Dan was masterful and created a blueprint for much of what was to come in the '90s.
