Description

Chicago house pioneer Chip E opens the vault with The Architect Of House - Chicago 1984-88. Volume 2: Unreleased Jack, a double LP bringing previously unheard material from the formative years of house music to vinyl for the first time. Documenting a crucial period in the development of Chicago’s underground sound, this collection offers a rare glimpse into the experiments and ideas that helped shape early club culture.

Recorded during the mid-1980s, these tracks capture Chip E’s innovative approach to emerging studio technology, drum programming and the raw, stripped-back energy of early house. Across alternate mixes, club versions, vocal demos and acapellas, the collection explores the many sides of his sound, from foundational Chicago grooves to the deeper, more experimental edges of the genre.

Highlights include the Alternate Mix of “Godfather Of House Music”, the driving “Big Drum Dub” of “Like This”, and a Frankie Knuckles remix of “Like This” subtitled “It’s Hot Mix”. Multiple versions of “Time to Jack” reveal the track in different stages and forms, including a Studio Vocal Demo, the Art of Jack Remix and a Vocal Acapella, making this an especially valuable collection for DJs, producers and dedicated house music collectors.

Released by Still Music, Volume 2: Unreleased Jack is an important archival document of Chicago house history, celebrating Chip E’s role as an early innovator and preserving a previously unheard chapter in the genre’s evolution.
