In 1983, Chateau made waves by winning the KRE Radio Hot Fun In The Sun Battle of the Bands held at Mosswood Park, Oakland. As winners, they earned $5,000 (roughly eight hours) of studio time and a pressing run of 200 singles. The band featured Alan Ross on lead vocals and percussion, Damara 'Candy' Stepney, and Kevin Dailey on vocals, saxophone, bass, and guitar. The lineup also included talented musicians like Melvin Jones (horns, keys), Dennis Knepper (keyboard), Frank Lemon (drums), Michael Clark (rhythm guitar), Doug Hearne (guitar), and Bill Ortiz (trumpet, from Santana).
While Chateau only released one 7-inch single, "Feelings" remains one of the most coveted West Coast funk and boogie tracks to this day. Its infectious groove, soulful vocals, and vibrant instrumentation make it a timeless classic for collectors, DJs, and funk lovers alike.
