Description:
Three years after releasing Rapido Super on Hell Yeah Recordings, Caramel 3000 returns with Super Tempra, an eight-track album that takes his distinctive sound into even slower, stranger and more immersive territory. Built around his signature OB-6 synthesiser and Eurorack modular setup, the record weaves together springy reverb, delayed balafon, scattered spoken-word samples, syrupy choir voices and hypnotic melodic fragments.
Drawing inspiration from the artist's time between the Barene, south of the Venice Lagoon, and his studio in Anderlecht, Super Tempra unfolds like a surreal sonic collage. Quotes from legendary Italian singer Ornella Vanoni, fragments of Nancy Fraser lectures, children's percussion and mystic melodies drift through its richly textured soundscapes, blurring the boundaries between downtempo, experimental electronica and psychedelic ambient music.
From the ancient sci-fi dub of the opening track to the occult-tinged rhythms of ‘Corsa Nudi’, the watery atmospheres of ‘Arena / Deriva’ and the otherworldly polyrhythms of ‘Acqua Tofana’, each track takes its own unexpected direction. Elsewhere, ‘Lente Virtus’ balances melodic innocence with humid, hypnotic textures, while ‘Soft-Shell Crab’ delivers a woozy kaleidoscope of sound. Completing the journey, ‘Cacciatore di Frodo’ and ‘Vittoria Foresta’ drift between haunting atmospheres and dreamlike melodies.
Supported by DJs including Vladimir Ivkovic, Calm, Alexis Le-Tan, Sean Johnston, Leo Mas and Mark Broadbent, Super Tempra is a wonderfully off-centre collection for fans of leftfield electronica, experimental downtempo and psychedelic sounds.
