Description:

Manchester musician, producer, percussionist, drummer and DJ Danny Ward returns with his Balaphonic project and the richly detailed 'Organic Matters' EP on NuNorthern Soul. Following the acclaimed 'Resolution Revolutions' album, Balaphonic continues to evolve Ward's exploration of Afro-Cuban and Brazilian musical culture, combining live percussion and instrumentation with Balearic, Latin jazz, dub, deep house and downtempo influences.

Conceived over a career spanning more than three decades, Balaphonic has developed into a widescreen musical project built around warm rhythms, intricate instrumentation and sun-soaked melodies. 'Organic Matters' pushes that sound even further, bringing together a series of talented collaborators to create an intricately layered collection filled with live percussion, organic instrumentation and beautifully arranged melodic details.

The EP opens with 'Dew Drop', created alongside internationally renowned composer and arranger Robin Dewhirst. A yearning samba shuffle unfolds through picturesque piano, xylophone and balafon melodies, layered over dense Latin percussion and warm bass. 'Switch' then revisits Ward's 2005 composition, this time featuring legendary Brazilian jazz vocalist Flora Purim and her daughter Diana Moreira Booker. Reimagined in a gentle 7/4 rhythm, the track pays tribute to the Brazilian jazz records that first established Purim's reputation during the 1960s and 70s.

On the B-side, 'Balaventurers' sees Ward collaborate with R.S.L founder Joe Botham AKA Baleardelica, whose flamenco-inspired acoustic guitar provides the foundation for a colourful arrangement of layered vocals, twinkling keys and intricate percussion. 'Life of Strings' follows with Amsterdam-based violinist and composer Katya Gabeli, combining Ward's propulsive percussion with evocative strings for one of the EP's most dancefloor-focused and emotionally resonant moments.

The release closes with two beautifully atmospheric pieces. 'Boxfresh' brings together Afro-Cuban rhythms, cascading melodies and melodic percussion, while 'Home' provides a deeply poignant finale built around tracked piano, dreamy chords and a gentle sense of resolution. With support from Gilles Peterson, Glenn Underground, Crazy P, Terry Farley, Aroop Roy, Chris Coco, Francois K, Greg Wilson and many more, 'Organic Matters' is a stunning example of contemporary Balearic music rooted in live musicianship and global musical traditions.

Perfect for DJs and collectors looking for Balearic vinyl, Latin jazz records, downtempo house, Afro-Cuban rhythms and sophisticated NuNorthern Soul releases. A warm, organic and beautifully crafted six-track journey from one of the most distinctive projects in modern Balearic music.
