Description

The Discos Panorama series returns to Colombia for La Pava Congona / Soul Makossa, a heavyweight double-sider pairing classic Colombian cumbia with a wild Latin interpretation of an iconic Afro-funk groove. Released on PANORAMA Records, this black 7-inch vinyl brings two distinctive dancefloor records together, celebrating the rich musical heritage of Colombia and its connections with global funk and tropical rhythms.

On the A-side, Andrés Landero Y Su Conjunto – La Pava Congona showcases the unmistakable sound of Landero, widely known as El Rey de la Cumbia. Driven by hypnotic accordion melodies, rolling rhythms and a lively call-and-response feel, the track captures the infectious swing of traditional Colombian sabanero cumbia. Raw, rhythmic and full of character, it is a standout selection for fans of classic Latin music and tropical dancefloor sounds.

Flip the record for Afrosound – Soul Makossa, a Colombian take on Manu Dibango’s landmark Afro-funk track. Afrosound bring their own distinctive flavour to the groove, combining fuzzed-out guitar, tropical percussion and loose psychedelic textures. The result is an energetic fusion of Afro-funk and Colombian tropical music, with the kind of irresistible rhythm that makes it a natural fit for adventurous DJs and collectors of rare Latin sounds.

True to the spirit of the Discos Panorama series, this release brings essential music back into circulation with care and respect for its original character. Pairing accordion-led cumbia with psychedelic tropical funk, La Pava Congona / Soul Makossa is a compelling 7-inch for selectors exploring Colombian classics, Latin grooves and global dancefloor sounds.
