Arguably the most perfect fusion of hip-hop and jazz ever heard, A Tribe Called Quest’s sophomore album The Low End Theory came out in 1991. As well as spawning the ace singles ‘Check The Rhime’, ‘Jazz (We’ve Got)’ and ‘Scenario’ and classic tracks like ‘Buggin’ Out’, it’s influenced countless subsequent rappers from Nas through to Kendrick Lamar via Kanye West and Pharrell Williams. Oh, and it also launched Busta Rhymes’ career. Utterly essential stuff.
